Jesus, would you come play with me?

Jason Upton tells the story of a song he wrote with his little son Samuel.

- Daddy I want to write a song about Jesus.

- What do you want to say to Jesus?

- I want to say “hey Jesus”.

So I wrote down “hey Jesus”.

- What are you gonna say after Hey Jesus?

He said:

- Are you still on the cross or are you feeling better? And if you’re feeling better, would you come down and play with me?

So I tried singing “Won’t you come down, down, down, down to the ground.”

- Yeah, daddy, I like that.

And he added saying:

- Down to the next to me place.

This story completely killed me. It’s amazing to see the heart of a child and what they have to say to Jesus!

And I couldn’t stop myself from picturing our future little kids writing songs with Dan, sitting on the couch and coming up with amazing lines of love and worship to the Lord!

“From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise.” Matt 21:16

  1. I can’t wait until Jesus comes down and plays with me! As I listened to the song I closed by eyes and just imagined Jesus twirling me around in circles – then I sobbed, just the thought of that day filled me with such joy I just lost it…thanks for the post today, I needed that!!

  2. Wow what an awesome word picture. Let’s head to the playground with Jesus!

  3. So be it, Marianna! May all your children be blessed and know the Lord from a young age. May they hear and sing the songs of heaven. May they worship even from the crib. May they leap with joy in your womb in the Presence!

AWESOME post. Thank you for sharing that!
